The Bear Without A Care
Today I wasn`t roster on to go into work, I spent the first half of the day having coffee and teaching a mate how to use my camera, so she could take some photos of.
Some came out pretty good.
Two from Liv, one from Naya.
After coming home and having a quick nap, I had a stroke of motivation come over me. I didn't have anyone to shoot... but I had plenty of things I could. I then set myself the challenge to find one product and make an advertisement. I haven`t done any video work for a long time so I decided to jump back in and see how I go.
Here`s the result!
What I Did Right
The main things I did right was;
- making sure the birds-eye shots were mostly aligned between cuts
- being abstract and using foo dye to give a rough look of rum (there was one shot left in the bottle & was used in first test)
- using a somewhat rustic and earthy background & setting
- creating a unique tag line that I`m pretty sure Bundaberg Rum Company hasn`t used yet.
- having a coherent idea of my end result & how I wanted to get there from the get go
What I Did Wrong
There were three main things I feel like I feel like I majorly screwed up;
- cutting the audio halfway through to try and extend to chorus through the whole ad
- small changes in glass position from birds-eye shots & front on end shot
- overall audio quality of voice over - this was last minute and done with what I had available
- Image fade ins and outs
- the yellow food dye makes the rum being poured look like urine
I could knit-pick everything right & wrong I did, but to produce something like this in less than five hours, & after years of not doing any video work, I feel I did well & am happy to release the work.
Now these photos were taken at night, but this was the rough setup I had during the shoot.
The leaves were hibiscus leaves I cleaned up yesterday, so they had a day to ferment & release more flavour for the rum.
I was beyond happy with result, & I know where I could improve for the next shoot, & I hope to get shooting more video sooner rather than later.
